Duty and responsibility of Dean:
- Develop strategic plans of the College

Duties and Responsibilities of the Law School Head
As per article 140.3 of the university of Gondar senate legislation and the law school guideline the head of the law department has the following duties and responsibilities.
- Develop the strategic plan of the department together with the AUC;
- Direct the teaching, research and community service activities of the department;
- Promote the enhancement of the quality and relevance of teaching, research and community service in the department;
- Initiate proposals for deliberations by the DC on matters within the jurisdiction of the latter;
- Follow-up and implement the decisions and recommendations of the AUC and the DC;
- Seek to provide opportunities for educational and professional development of the staff and students of the department;
- Ensure the processing of appointments, promotions, salary increments and the benefits due to the staff of the department are made in accordance with the rules and regulations of the University;
- Prepare and initiate the preparation of plans, programs and budgets for the activities of the department and closely supervise the implementation of approved plans, programs and budgets;
- Create conducive atmosphere for the expansion of academic, research and community service efforts in the department;
- Prepare up-to-date reports on the teaching. research and consultancy/community services and technology transfer provided by the department;
- Assign an academic advisor to each student to help him in his education; and advisors and examiners for senior essays or projects;
- Supervise the proper use of physical and human resources within the department;
- Ensure that academic staff of the department submit periodic reports on their teaching, research and community service activities and, in consultation with the DC, take appropriate actions on issues raised in such reports;
- Keep records of activities of all staff of the department to serve as inputs for evaluations. Such records shall, inter alia, include reports on research work, publications, conference papers and talks, status of works in progress during that year, professional community services and participation in University affairs;
- Conduct performance evaluation of each staff at the end of each semester/term;
- Ensure that student’ evaluations and peer reviews of staff of the department are properly conducted and the necessary reports are submitted to the dean as per procedures on these matters;
- Ensure the handling of proper academic records of students of the department;
- Increase access to education and reach out the public at large through continuing education.
- Design specialized programs of study specifically tailored to fit the needs of stakeholders of continuing education;
- Design guidelines for recruitment of academic and support staff for continuing education;
- Work on admission policy, on internal and external transfer from/ to continuing education credit, non-credit and short term training program;
Powers and Responsibilities of Legal aid Center Director
As per article 19 of the law school guideline the Legal aid Center Director has the following duties and responsibilities
- Prepare the annual plan of the center;
- Submit annual and quarterly reports to the school dean
- Follow up the proper delivery of the free legal aid service;
- Ensure for qualified and skilled service providers;
- Respond to client needs in high quality and high impact services;
- Strengthen collaboration and external relations with government organs and other stakeholders;
- Improve Access to Legal Information and Education for both rural and urban residents;
- Facilitate and engage in effective legal advice, assistance and mediation;
- Ensure effective legal representation;
- Set clear eligibility criteria to determine service seekers;
- Ensure inclusive participation of staff members and students in delivering free legal aid service;
- Ensure timely and adequate remuneration for the service providers;
- Regular observance of different legal aid centers of the school;
- Follow up the effective utilization of resources in each center;
- Propose the opening of new legal aid service centers (when it is deemed necessary); and other tasks
Duties and Responsibilities of the Assistant Registrar of the Law School
As per article 141.2 of the university of Gondar senate legislation, the Assistant Registrar of the law school has the following duties and responsibilities.
- Develop and maintain admission procedures for school students;
- Process all applications for admission in accordance with University policies and procedures;
- Consolidate up-to-date statistics on admission, registration and readmission based on reports from the departments and exam center;
- Assist with the preparation of the University Catalogue, admission prospectus, brochure/flyers, student handbooks and other publications related to the Office of the University Registrar;
- Assist the departments and the Exam Center in developing and maintaining records;
- Coordinate logistical needs for the activities of the Office of the University Registrar such as registration, examination, exemption, readmission and withdrawal;
- Consolidate from the Office of the University Registrar complete documents on all new admissions and readmissions;
- Prepare semester reports for the dean and the University Registrar in his area of responsibility;
- Administer matters covering personnel, finance, resources, maintenance, acquisition, sanitation and purchasing for the smooth running of the teaching and learning process;
- Prepare annual work plans and activity schedules of his office and ensure their timely implementation upon approval by the concerned dean;
- Ensure that up-to-date staff records are kept;
- Organize trainings for his staff;
- Establish an efficient working mechanism to monitor and oversee the activities of his staff;
- Be member and secretary to the AUC.
- Ensure that services provided by his Office are professional, efficient and speedy.
- Prepare grade reports and determine students’ status before the resumption of the next semester.
- Devise complaint hearing mechanisms regarding registration, exemption, readmission and withdrawal, graduation, etc;
- Ensure that decisions and recommendations of the Academic Unit Council are compatible with University rules regarding registration, exemption, readmission and withdrawal, graduation, etc;
- Explore and implement ways and means of improving his office;
- Ensure that academic calendars are adhered to;
- Communicate educational policies, rules and regulations to students and members of the his academic unit community through booklets and other means;
Duties and Responsibilities of the Exam Center of the Law School
As per article 142.2 of the university of Gondar senate legislation, the Exam Center the law school has the following duties and responsibilities
- Develop and maintain student examination records;
- Coordinate logistical needs for the activities of the Office of the Exam Center such as syllabus preparation, assignments, worksheets tests, final exams and modules;
- Prepare semester reports for the Dean’s Office and the Teaching Learning Core Process in his area of responsibility;
- Administer matters covering personnel, finance, resources, maintenance, acquisition, sanitation and purchasing for the smooth running of the center.
- Prepare annual, work plans and activity schedules of his office and ensure their timely implementation upon approval by the concerned dean;
- Ensure that up-to-date staff records are kept properly;
- Organize trainings for his staff whenever necessary;
- Establish an efficient working mechanism to monitor and oversee the activities of his staff;
- Ensure that services provided by his office are professional, efficient and speedy.
- Devise complaint hearing mechanisms regarding confidentiality of exam items, administration of exams during examinations, etc;
- Ensure that decisions and recommendations of the Academic Unit Council are compatible with University rules regarding syllabus preparation, continuous assessments, final examination etc;
- Explore and implement ways and means of improving his office;
- Ensure that academic calendars are adhered to;
- Communicate educational policies, rules and regulations to students and members of the academic unit community through booklets and other means;
- Review and endorse final examination as well as continuous assessment papers prepared by an instructor or a panel of instructors and are submitted to the Department Council;
- Officially announce grades to students by posting the tear off section of the grade report forms on official notice boards;
- Ensure that the right of students to check their corrected exam papers is respected within five days after the end of exam period;
- Develop an item bank and prepare final examinations with selected experts;
- Work with heads of departments and the school dean for exam related activities when the need arises;
- Interpret and implement rules and regulations of the University within his academic unit that are directly related with the functions of his office in accordance with this Legislation and policies and directives; and
- Perform such other activities as may be assigned to him by the dean
Education Quality Assurance Office Coordinator
Thecoordinatorhasthefollowingpowersandresponsibilities:
- Prepare the annual plan of the coordination office;
- Submit annual and quarterly reports to the school dean
- Coordinate quality assessment for the overall activities of the School;
- Conduct performance evaluation of each staff at the end of each semester in collaboration with the department head of the school;
- Propose improvement plans based on quality assessment recommendations in collaboration with the Dean and AUC;
- Carry out quality assurance and auditing;
- Initiates and/or supports course, program and school self-assessment, peer review, external review and accreditation;
- Assist the department in developing standards for academic resource centers like classroom technology,
- Assist the registrar and exam coordinator of the school in the establishment of central examination database;
- Monitor and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the operations of the school as a learning institution;
- Facilitate calls for external advisers and review panels and support their activities;
- Compiles final internal academic quality audit document;
- Organize seminars or colloquiums, conferences and other teaching related activities in order to evaluate the state of education in the school;
- Undertake other related activities
Duties and Responsibilities of the Research and Publication Office Coordinator
- Prepare strategic plan, on the conduct, management, and ethics of research publication in the school;
- Organize research seminars or colloquiums, conferences and others;
- Set annual research agenda by identifying priority areas and weighing the societal relevance of research engagements;
- Prepare annual research plan and executing it on approval;
- Undertake call for submission of proposals and arrange sessions for proposal review;
- Prepare and submit annual and quarterly reports to the school dean and to the GA;
- Document all research efforts in the school including approved or rejected proposals, researches undertaken, and are yet in progress or are interrupted, or researches undertaken and are completed;
- Serve as a resource center and place where data bases are organized;
- Publicizing researchable topics in a timely manner;
- Soliciting research fund both from internal and external sources;
- Preparing (collaborative, long or short term) research projects and managing them when approved and funded;
- Provide training on research methods, writing for publishing, and other related skills;
- Assessing research proposals, and research reports on the basis of pre-determined set of criteria, or facilitating the manner in which reports are assessed by internal and/or external assessors;
- Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with stakeholders and donors;
- Promote research, and publications by publishing magazines, abstracts, indexes;
- Organize award ceremonies for best researchers;
- Create forums that may help to publicize the school’s research outputs; and

Duties and Responsibilities of the Community Services, Industry Linkage, and Technology Transfer Office Coordinator
- Prepare the annual plan of the office;
- Submit annual and quarterly reports to the dean and to the GA;
- Undertake call for submission of proposals and arrange sessions for proposal review;
- Monitor and follow up the progress of on-going community service research projects through reporting mechanism;
- Conduct need assessment at individual, community and organizational level to identify training, and consultancy gaps;
- Provide consultancy services;
- Provide trainings to private and government organizations;
- Strengthen the service culture of the school;
- Build up and share information about community service activities;
- Promote the school’s service activities to the community;
- Facilitate the school’s cooperation and linkage with the community;
- Search appropriate funding source for community service activities;
- Identify placement institutions for externship and assign students in such institutions;
- Monitor extern students;
- Provide any assistance and guidance to students throughout their externship experience;

Duties and Responsibilities of the Graduate Program Coordination Office Coordinator
- Prepare the annual plan of the coordination office;
- Submit annual and quarterly reports to the school dean and to the GA;
- Take care of the administration of the programs of study and researches leading to LLM;
- Invite renown and qualified guest lectures from other Universities for LLM classes;
- Organize seminars or colloquiums, and conferences related with LLM streams;
- Ensure the effective implementation of the policies and decisions laid down by the University for the administration of graduate programs and the welfare of students;
- Take appropriate actions in consultation with the school dean and AUC on recommendations with regard to programs, candidates or other academic matters;
- Ensure record keeping in collaboration with assistant registrar;
- Submit to the AUC through the assistant registrar the names of candidates eligible for the award of graduate diplomas, certificates and degrees in conformity with the rules and regulations of the university;
- Make recommendations for the strengthening and development of existing programs;
- Make recommendations for commencement of new programs and carry out any other task that fosters the development of graduate studies in the school;
- Study and recommend the initiation of inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary post graduate programs; and
